After
spending 5 years training Open horses in Europe, David and Becky
Hanson returned home to the states to take their place in the highly
competitive Reining and Working Cow Horse arenas. Established
in the spring of 2000, Hanson Performance Horses as proven itself a
viable competitor in both the Reining and the Cow Horse Industries.
Since his return, David has found himself in the Open Finals of the
NRHA Futurity, the NRHA Derby, the NRCHA Futurity and the NRBC.
Becky has also made the Intermediate Open Finals of the NRHA Derby
and both David and Becky hold NAAC Affiliate Titles as well as
numerous West Coast Open Titles. In addition to running a busy
training facility, both David and Becky are also very involved in
the reining community at both the local and National levels.
Dave has served on the Board of the Directors of the West Coast
Reining Horse Association for the past 6 years and is currently into
his second year of serving as the WCRHA President and is also a
member of the NRHA Professionals Committee. In addition
to Dave’s involvement, Becky is on the NRHA Board of Directors and
holds a position as the nation’s Northwest Regional Director.
Also active on the NRHA Affiliate Committee, Amateur Task Force, and
Non Pro Committee, the Hanson’s feel it is important to be involved
and to give back to an industry that has provided them with so much.
Originally from the high desert of Central Oregon,
David Hanson was practically born a horse trainer. Training horses
was how his father made a living and training horses is also the
profession of choice for both his brother Phil Hanson Jr. (NCHA Hall
of Fame member and NCHA Futurity Judge) and his sister Brenda Brown
(NRHA Int.Open Finalist and NRCHA Limited Open Bridle National
Champion). Growing up, Dave showed both cutters and cow horses and
even spent his high school and college years roping. For David and
Becky Hanson training horses is more than an occupation, it is a way
of life. Born the son of a horse trainer, David has spent the
majority of his life pursuing his passion for the performance horse.
After graduating from California Polytechnic State University where
he received a degree in Animal Science, David and his wife Becky
spent five years training reining horses in Italy for Arcese Quarter
Horses and showing throughout Europe, garnering a number highly
sought after titles including Italian Futurity, Derby, and Maturity
Champion. Back in the United States since 2000, David and
Becky have started their own business in Central California where
they have built a program based on Reining and Working Cow Horses.
Priding themselves in providing strong basics for young horses that
withstand the test of both time and pressure, David and Becky strive
to create horses of quality and longevity.
In addition to a competitive Open program, they have
attracted a number of non pro riders that have also proven to be
strong competitors and welcomed assets to the Hanson program.
An NRHA Futurity and Derby Open qualifier, David is now
proving himself to be viable competitor in the world of professional
Reining and both he and wife Becky look forward to future success
both in and out of the show pen. Whether someone is in search of the
perfect futurity prospect, the finished show horse, or just lessons
that will enhance their overall ability to ride and show, the
Hansons offer a program that is based around basics and simplicity.
Honesty and integrity are qualities that they pride themselves in
possessing and teamwork is a theory that they apply to their program
as a whole. Whether it is teamwork and cooperation between
horse and rider or trainer and owner, the Hansons believe that
success is not a result of one person’s efforts, but of the efforts
of the entire team.
