Congratulations David Hanson and West Coast Smarty – NRHA Intermediate Open Derby Finalist – Owned by Pamela Oshay

 April 15, 2010

Here we are, into April, and we have already been through the Cactus Classic in Scottsdale, Gold N Grand, and our first West Coast Affiliate Show.  Congratulations to Lori Soma on a fabulous first show with her new horse Whiz N Imp.  Lori and “Tucker” placed second the first day in the Limited Non Pro and won the second day (with a big fat 74!!)….giving her the Reserve Circuit Title.  Following the Limited Non Pro, Lori went on to win the first day of the Novice Horse Non Pro with a 72.5   Not too shabby for her first outing on her new pony.  While in Scottsdale, Dave marked a 220.5 on Pam Oshay’s West Coast Smarty and was 3rd in the Limited Open Derby and 4th in the Intermediate.  Way to go Dave and “Duke.”  After coming home from Arizona, we then loaded up and went to Gold N Grand with 20 head where almost everyone came home with a buckle.  Dave and Butch Coggins flashy gelding, Hearst Cut Diamond, won the Snaffle Bit Hackmore Circuit.  Kelsey Njus and her new mare, Bedazzled Banjo, placed in the Reserve position, followed by Becky Hanson and Julie Schwartz’s new horse Rooster’s Mae Gossip.  Jerry Vaugn’s Roselight N Chrome also brought home a top five buckle in the same class. Four of the top 5 buckles went home with the Hansons.  Congratulations to Tiffany Andrews and her buckles in both the Non Pro and Novice Horse Non Pro.  Also, George Deffterios and Honky Tonk Whiz placed in the Top Five in the Limited Non Pro.  Another new team that had great success was Carson Kautz and Custom Coffee……who won the Youth 14-18 Championship Buckle.  Congrats Carson…..hopefully this is the beginning of a fabulous year for you and Coffee.  Almost as cool as Carson was Becky Hanson and Lori Soma’s Whiz N Imp who won the Open Circuit Buckle, followed by Dave and Pam Oshay’s West Coast Smarty.  Considering this was the first time out for most of us, the 3 day show weekend went very well.  Good job also to all of our Green Reiners and Green as Grass contestants……Sue Barton showed her new mare Shezastarlightbeauty, for the first time and put together 3 great patterns, while Bee Brown, who at seventy-something just took up the sport of Reining a year ago and went on to run 3 clean patterns in the Green as Grass on Alenas Rooster.  Also, congrats to Jeannie LeRoy and Great Red Rascal, who also ran three clean patterns her first time out! Great job girls!!   A big welcome also goes out to Michelle Littlejohn and Shelah Bolton who have recently become a part of our fabulous group.  Great job to both of you at Gold N Grand…..we are looking forward to a great summer with you two as a part of our team.  Only a few days following Gold N Grand, we took virtually the same group of horses back to Rancho Murrieta for the first West Coast Affiliate Show.  Things picked up right where we left off and Becky and Tucker ended up winning the Intermediate Open and placing Reserve in the Open having marked a 73.5.  Right behind Tucker was Dave and Duke, marking a 73, while Michelle Devine was Reserve in the Limited Open on Fear the Juice.  Adding to his LTE, Tucker and Lori Soma went on to win the Novice Horse NP2 with a score of 72.5, followed by Tiffany Andrews and Jacs Peacemaker splitting 5th with a 71.5.  Great Job Girls.  Following up her Gold N Grand weekend with an equally stellar performance was Carson Kautz and Custom Coffee, splitting Reserve in the Youth 14-18 and placing 6th in the Rookie with the third highest score in the class.  Looks like Carson is Rockin!!  In the Non Pro, Tiffany Andrews placed fourth with a 72.5 (pretty tough class I’m going to say!) and 3rd in the Intermediate NP, while Lori and Tucker garnered a few more points and dollars in 7th (NP),  6th  (INP) and 4th (LNP) with a 71.5.  Finally, despite the wind and rain and crumby conditions, Dave stuck it out to show Hearst Cut Diamond in the Snaffle Bit Hackamore.  It was worth the effort as “Rock” ran a very pretty 72 and won the class.  Again, Congratulations to everyone, including all of our Greens who continue to work hard at improving their skills.  Way to Go Jeannie on your 4th place finish in the Green as Grass….you’re the bomb!  So now, hopefully our weather will turn for the better, spring will be upon us, and everyone will continue to build upon the success that has come our way so early in the season.  We look forward to seeing everyone over the course of the next few weeks and look forward to Affiliate Show #2 at the end of the month.  Don’t forget to check the West Coast Premium for conditions on the Non Pro Shoot Out!  It will be great fun at a great facility.  See you all there!
