Congratulations to Phil Hanson and Sherry Chamberlin of Weatherford, TX owner of LHR Smooth Jamie May – NCHA Horse of the Year for 2010 with Derby wins at the Bonanza, The Breeders Invitational and the NCHA Derby. As the NCHA’s #2 rider for 2010 with earnings over $450,000, Phil was also honored with the Bill Freeman award which recognizes a rider who strives for excellence through commitment, desire, sacrifices and improvement in the cutting arena.

Dave into his second year as West Coast Reining Horse Association
President and Becky taking on the NRHA Northwest Regional Director’s
position in addition to her position as an NRHA Affiliate Committee
member, we look forward to an even more innovative year here on the
West Coast. We
extend a warm welcome to those of you who are new to our program and
we want to let you know that we appreciate the faith you all place
in our program and the loyalty that so many of you continue you show
with each passing year and can’t wait to participate in all of your
success stories in 2011.
December 4, 2010 – NAAC
Championships – Oklahoma City, OKC
It was their last trip together to the show pen and it was a great
way to end a great year.
Dave Hanson and West Coast Smarty put together a 220.5 to win the
North American Affiliate Championship title in the Intermediate Open
(and placing third in the Open).
A beautiful bronze, buckle, and saddle all came home to
California. Thanks so
much to Pam Oshay for the opportunity to show such a great gelding!
“Duke” sold shortly after his winning run and will now reside
in Florida where he will help a “Hunter Jumper turned Reiner” to
learn the ropes.
Congratulations to Pam, Dave and Duke on a great year!
December 1, 2010 – West
Coast Reining Horse Association Year End Results
Becky Hanson and Whiz N Imp, owned by Lori Soma are Open Champions
and Intermediate Open Co-Champions.
David Hanson and West Coast Smarty, owned by Pam Oshay, were
third in both the Open and the Intermediate Open.
David Hanson, riding Sue Barton’s mare Shezastarlightbeauty
were Novice Horse Open Level 1 Year End Chapmions, while David
Hanson and Butch Coggins’ horse Hearst Cut Diamond ended up taking
home the Snaffle Bit / Hackamore Champion Title.
Kelsey Njus and Bedazzled Banjo were third overall in the
Snaffle Bit / Hackamore with Dave and Jerry Vaughn’s Roselight and
Chrome rounding out the top five.
In the Non Pro, Tiffany Andrews came in fourth for the Year.
Lori Soma also placed fourth for the year in the Intermediate
Non Pro, third in the Limited and fourth in the Novice Horse 2.
Congratulations Lori.
Great job George Deffterios for finishing the year in third
place in the Prime Time Rookie and to Christine Ramsey for finishing
in fourth position in the Green Reiner.
Finally, congratulations to Jeannie LeRoy for your fourth
place finish in the Green as Grass…..you did a great job all year.

Northwest Affiliate Finals – Nampa, ID
Congratulations to David Hanson and West Coast Smarty on their
stellar run in Nampa.
The pair is the NW Affiliate Open and Intermediate Open Champions.
Also, great job Lori Soma and Whiz N Imp on being Reserve
Champions in the Non Pro, Intermediate Non Pro, Limited Non Pro and
Novice Horse Non Pro, qualifying for the Adequan North American
Affiliate Finals in OKC.
George Deffterios, Kelsey Njus, and Tiffany Andrews also qualified
for the NAAC Finals to be held the end of November in OKC.

Best in the West Year End Show – MEC
Another great run from West Coast Smarty and David Hanson make them
Open Derby Co-Champions and Intermediate Open Derby Champions at the
West Coast Year End Show.

Congratulations Lori Soma and Whiz N Imp on placing Reserve Champion
in the Intermediate Non Pro, the Limited Non pro and the Novice
Horse Non Pro2. You guys
had a great show. Also congrats to Kelsey Njus on a job well done in
the Non Pro Derby.
July 25, 2010 – Reining
by the Bay – Woodside, CA
Becky Hanson and Whiz N Imp, owned by Lori Soma, win the
Intermediate Open Circuit and are Reserve Champions for the Open
Circuit. Leah Martin and
Slide Zone win the Green as Grass buckle – it was their first time
out, and Kelsey Njus and Bedazzled Banjo win checks in all three of
the Non Pro Derby Divisions.
Sue Barton and Jeannie LeRoy both snag their first 70’s and
George Deffterios takes home a Circuit Award in the Prime Time
Rookie. Congratulations to everyone!

Kelsey Njus and Bedazzled Banjo receive the highest score of the
entire weekend in the Novice Horse Non Pro.

David Hanson and West Coast Smarty, owned by Pamela Oshay win the
Open and Intermediate Open Derby at the first annual Rein for the
Roses sponsored by Bill Madden.
